SIMPLE.DANCER off duty

W Warszawie trwa właśnie 13 edycja międzynarodowego festiwalu tańca współczesnego Ciało/Umysł. Jego ideą jest stworzenie niezależnym artystom szeroko pojętego tańca współczesnego możliwości manifestacji swojej działalności i rozwoju. W Teatrze Wielkim- Operze Narodowej zbliżają się już VI Dni Sztuki Tańca i pomyślałam, że ciekawym będzie porównać te oba wydarzenia, zobaczyć, co dzieje się na niezależnych scenach tańca. Szczęśliwie mój plan pracy pozwolił mi na wizytę w Teatrze Studio. Wraz z moim M wybraliśmy się na spektakl The Iliad w reżyserii niemieckiego tancerza i choreografa Felixa Mathiasa Otta. Pomimo bardzo sugestywnego tytułu, Iliada nie jest opowieścią o walce i wędrówce, której głównymi wartościami są męstwo i waleczność. Pomimo atletycznej budowy obydwu mężczyzn poruszających się na scenie, nie takie męstwo spektakl nam oferuje. Ott operuje ruchem codziennym, mężczyźni w roboczych strojach (jeansy, koszulki, paski na narzędzia przy pasie) wykonują codzienne ruchy wyciągnięte ze scenerii remontowo- budowlanej. Na oczach widzów naprzemiennie budują i rozkładają drewnianą konstrukcję, przedstawiając widzom abstrakcyjne przestrzenie i trójwymiarowe głębie. Prosty ruch, praca, współgrała z surowością przedstawianych konstrukcji. Towarzysząca tej „pracy” muzyka ilustrowała akcję. Była echem wykonywanych przez mężczyzn czynności. Mnie najbardziej urzekła ostatnia scena, w której zawieszone na linach odważniki w kształcie kul, poruszające się dzięki nadanej im przez performerów sile, zawisły w przestrzeni kołysząc się wedle swojego rytmu. 'Planety? Upływający czas?’… to moja refleksja po obejrzeniu spektaklu 🙂

Pomimo, iż nie było to przedstawienie stricte taneczne, warto było pójść i zobaczyć, co na świecie tworzą performerzy i w którą stronę zmierza rozwój niezależnego tańca współczesnego na świecie.

There is the 13th edition of the Body/Mind International Contemporary Dance Festival in Warsaw now. Its idea is to give the independent contemporary dancers and choreographers an opportunity to develop and perform their works.

Grand Theatre-National Opera is organizing the 6th edition of its Days of Dance soon. I thought it would be a nice experience to compare those two events. Fortunately, my schedule let me go to Teatr Studio in Warsaw to see one of the Body/Mind performances. Along with my M, we watched Felix Mathias Ott’s The Iliad. Despite the very suggestive title, The Iliad doesn’t show us the story about the long journey or struggle, which values are bravery and valour. Even though two men are quite athletic it’s not that sort of muscilinity that the show provides. Ott uses movements taken from the real life. Two men are dressed as if they were construction workers (jeans, tank tops, tools’ belts) so they move like they’re working under construction. We see them creating some wooden construction and then dismantling it. The public can see abstract spaces, three-dimensional distances that are moving with men on stage. Easy movement, the work, smoothly cooperates with simplicity of presented constructions. The music exemplified the action. It echoed those 'daily routine movements’. For me, the very last scene was reflective. Hanging balls moved with the power given by performers brought up some reflections into my mind… 'Planets? Time passing by?’

Despite not being a strict dance show, thank to this performance I got to know what the independent contemporary dance art looks like nowadays or where is it heading right now.
